An incandescent golden enamel invades the space until it reaches the monument which refuses to succumb. Its hammered lead roof melts under the effect of the heat. Its frame, known as “the forest” is nothing more than a heap of oak beams pluri-centenaries blackened and entangled in the middle of the choir. The spire of Viollet le-Duc saw its last moments overlooking the building. Notre Dame is still there, standing, luminous, in its representation as in the heart of Paris.
